On Saturday, Feb. 6, at around 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at 84 Armstrong St. in West Springfield.
Upon arrival, police said they found a male victim inside the home who had been shot multiple times. The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said the shooting appeared to be targeted and that the public was not at risk.
Following an investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Kevin Arroyo, 22, of Springfield.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10, at around 6:45 a.m., members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, West Springfield and Springfield police as well as Massachusetts State Police arrested Arroyo in Springfield, police said.
- An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
- In connection to the shooting, Arroyo is being charged with
- Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
- Assault and battery by discharging a firearm
- Attempted murder
- Unlawful possession of a firearm, and
- Carrying a loaded firearm.
Arroyo is being arraigned through Springfield District CourtThis is an active and on-going investigation.
This is not the first time Arroyo has been charged with firearm violations. In 2018, Arroyo was arrested following a traffic stop and received charges that included firearm possession, assault, and battery, receiving stolen property, and possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute, according to an archive WWLP article.
